Kensington is a small Prince Edward Island town located close to Summerside and is the primary trading center for the North Shore and Cavendish areas of PEI.
Kensington has two small grocery stores, a fitness centre and hockey rink, numerous restaurants, fast food outlets and bakeries, two schools, two banks, as well as the historic train station where Anne of Green Gables is said to have arrived at her new home. Kensington forms a crossroad between two highways as well as the gateway to PEI’s playground, Cavendish, and as such is busy year round. It is surrounded by small communities such as Darnley, Indian River, Long River, French River, Stanley Bridge, Cavendish, Clinton, Margate and more. These are really just small designated areas and have no business centres of their own. That is why Kensington provides a trading centre that is closer than Summerside to pickup everyday supplies.
