No, prices on PEI should remain stable with small price increases. Average home prices in PEI rose by 13%, from $388,218 to $401,040, between 2022 and 2023. The forecast for 2024 anticipates a further increase to $410,119, representing a 2.3% growth from 2023 to 2024. Exploring the Rent-to-Own Pilot Program in PEI: A Path to Home Ownership

The Prince Edward Island (PEI) Rent-to-Own program aims to facilitate home ownership for more residents, allowing eligible individuals to purchase homes without needing an immediate down payment or mortgage approval. This initiative addresses challenges like high housing costs and tight market conditions, outlined by Housing, Land, and Communities Minister Rob Lantz. Eligible participants, who must meet income and homeownership criteria, can enter into a rent-to-own agreement with Finance PEI. This agreement, highlighted by Minister of Economic Development, Innovation, and Trade Gilles Arsenault, offers a five-year, five per cent interest rate plan over 25 years. Participants can buy the property during this period, applying 40% of paid interest towards the down payment.
“A tight housing market and increases in construction cost have made housing prices out of reach for many Islanders. We want to help Islanders get a foot in the door towards home ownership as we continue to find ways to help Islanders who wish to move out of the rental market and into homeownership.”

– Housing, Land and Communities Minister Rob Lantz
