The annual DiverseCity Multicultural Festival, organized by IRSA in collaboration with government and municipal funders, sponsors, community partners, and volunteers, celebrates population diversity on the Island. The Festival showcases food, live music and dance, skills and talents demonstrations, and arts and crafts representing immigrant and First Nations cultures.
Century21 Northumberland Realty proudly participated in this year’s Summerside DiverseCity Festival with a booth. We are excited to announce the winners of the Ninja Air Fryer giveaway: Peter & Ashlee Ramos. Century21 Northumberland and our team of 35 agents represent a multicultural and diverse group, speaking nine different languages.
DiverseCity began its journey on Victoria Row in Charlottetown back in 2007. The initiative, driven by the Association’s community outreach team, aimed to unite both new and long-time Islanders in a joyous celebration of Canadian Multiculturalism Day. This inaugural street festival provided a platform for new immigrants to present their cultural heritage, while long-standing residents shared their traditions with newcomers. The festivities concluded with lively music and a street dance, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Over the years, DiverseCity has expanded significantly. Each subsequent event saw an increase in activity booths, food vendors, and cultural demonstrations, attracting a growing number of participants and representing a wider array of cultures.
By 2014, DiverseCity had evolved into a multi-event celebration, taking place across all three counties of the province. It has since become a staple of the Prince Edward Island summer festival calendar.
In 2016, to commemorate its 10th anniversary, DiverseCity organizers introduced a citizenship ceremony to the Charlottetown events. This tradition of honoring the newest Canadians continues to be a highlight of the Festival.
DiverseCity Now
The annual DiverseCity Multicultural Festival now graces multiple Island locations throughout the summer months. Each year, performers, vendors, artisans, community groups, and activity leaders from about eighty different cultures come together. The Festival offers a unique opportunity for everyone to celebrate the Island’s ever-growing, culturally rich community, enhanced continuously by immigration.
Century21 Northumberland Realty is proud to be a part of this vibrant and inclusive community, supporting the celebration of diversity and multiculturalism on Prince Edward Island.
